Deafheaven Bring Black Metal Ferocity To Varsity Theater
Blackgaze innovators and Californian extreme metal stalwarts Deafheaven are bringing their voracious live show on the road again, and they’re doing it on the heels of an incredible album release. The five piece released “Lonely People With Power” a few weeks ago, and it might well be their very best album yet - a powerful statement on the current state of the world set against compelling lyricism and some of the simultaneously heaviest and emotive instrumental work they have put to record. If you ducked their live shows over their previous album “Infinite Granite” due to its shoegaze nature, then you’ll want to swing back around this time because “Lonely…” is the most intense the band has been in their entire career, with special emphasis on back half star “Revelator” showing them trading blows with the likes of anyone in the black metal genre.
Supporting Deafheaven on their album are Arizonan melodic death metallers Gatecreeper, still hard at work getting as many shows out there as they can for last year’s “Dark Superstition” and Texan shoegaze band Trauma Ray, also on a continued tour cycle of last year’s “Chameleon”.
