Young The Giant Returns to Saint Paul 8/6 at Surly Festival Field

Young the Giant is an American rock band who started in California in 2004. The band, whose name originated as a ode to the boldness of their youth, have released 6 studio albums and two live albums, since their debut album release in 2010. Their first single from their debut album Young the Giant was “My Body” and remains in their top five songs to this day.

On February 5, 2026, the band announced their sixth studio album Victory Garden followed by the announcement of a tour later in the year. The album is described as an ode to "radical empathy", which guiatrist Eric Cannata describes as coming from a yearning for community from both within the band and in society. In explaining the meaning behind its title, lead singer Sameer Gadhia references the victory gardens of the World Wars and their attempts to rally together the civilians of the Allied Powers during times of unrest and uncertainty, while also using the band members' children as inspiration for a childlike perspective of the world. Outside of the ode to community power, the new album stands as a reminder to listeners and the band to hold onto the joy and wonder that we once felt as children. The band as been together for nearly 20 years and as they have grown and changed and released new music, they continue to hold onto the feelings associated with youth as they once had in the early years of Young the Giant.

The band kicked off their Victory Garden tour on July 25th in seattle and are set to arrive in Minneapolis August 6th and return to the Surly Brewing Festival Field stage. Joining them on tour is indie rock band Cold War Kids and alternative rock band Little Image. Young the Giant and Cold War Kids are bands i’ve seen live before and absolutely loved and since Little Image has been a recurring guest on my most listen to playlist, I’m confident in saying this lineup is set for a killer night.
