Hinterland Brings Folks to the Iowa Countryside
Every year since 2015, music lovers flock to the countryside of Iowa for Hinterland Music Festival - a now 4 day festival that takes place in St. Charles Iowa at Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater. Hinterland stands as the largest music festival in Iowa and brings in around 25,000 to 35,000 people in August of each year. The very first Hinterland Music Festival in 2015 brought in roughly 14,000 during the two days in which the festival was put on. Since then, the festival has singificantly grown and now hosts not only music artists such as Lorde, Noah Kahan, and Hozier, but it has become a space for local food and art vendors and has built a community within the festival and the camping areas. The festival is a blend of indie, bluegrass, folk, and rock and truly has something for everyone from a special kids area to vegan food vendors. What started as a “small town spirit” festival has now turned into a full blown multi-day festival with the largest crickets you’ve ever seen and the prettiest sunsets.
The 2026 festival kicks off on Thursday July 30th and wraps up on Sunday August 2nd with Lorde, Mumford and Sons, KATSEYE, and Kali Uchis headlining. other artists featured at this festival are MUNA, Jane Remover, Julia Wolf, Suki Waterhouse, and Wet Leg. Being only a 4 hour drive from Minneapolis, Hinterland Music Festival provides indie rock lovers with the ultimate festival and camping experience.
