Don’t Miss Pinhead Gunpowder 10/7 at First Avenue

Pinhead Gunpowder will be at First Avenue on Wednesday, October 7th and trust me when I say that this is a show you can’t miss!

Pinhead Gunpowder started writing songs in 1990 and made their first 7” the following spring.

Nearly every year since, they’ve met up to play. Some years they recorded—five albums and eleven EPs—and some years they played shows.

But since 2010, they’ve been playing just for themselves, something bands forget to do. Rather  than “writing for the new album” or rehearsing to get ready for tour, they went back to the basement every year. They lived in the house we’d built, remembering how they’d made the music for each other in the first place. They played all over the world—well, at least Oakland, Singapore, and New York—but only for each other. They worked on the reissues of their back catalog, too, and found themselves fonder of each other and more family-like than ever.

A new record and tour was only a matter of time, but between the members’ other band projects and families, that was hard to find. When they finally did, they were all surprised. They think it’s their best yet—our catchiest, most collaborative, and most poignant.

Oh, did I forget to mention that this band features Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong?
