Marilyn Manson’s One Assassination Under God Tour Stops at The Armory May 8

Marilyn Manson is coming to The Armory in Minneapolis on May 8 as part of his One Assassination Under God Tour, and it feels like one of those shows that people have kind of been waiting on without really realizing it. He hasn’t been through the Twin Cities in a while his last time playing around here was back in 2017 so this is more of a return than just another tour stop.

Manson first got big in the 1990s, mostly because of how controversial he was, but also because the music actually connected with a lot of people. Albums like Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals helped define his sound early on, mixing industrial rock with a kind of theatrical style that made his live shows stand out. Over the years, his image and music have changed a bit, but he’s still known for putting on a performance that’s more than just a typical concert.

This tour is tied to his newest album, One Assassination Under God: Chapter 1, which came out in 2024. It’s his first full release in a few years, and it leans into a darker, more atmospheric sound. It’s not a huge departure from what he’s done before, but it feels a little more modern in terms of production. Songs like “Sacrilegious” have gotten some attention, and it seems like the new material will be a big part of the setlist along with older tracks that most fans probably expect.

The Armory seems like a fitting venue for this kind of show. It’s big enough to handle the production side of things, but it still keeps that indoor arena feeling depending on where you’re at. Manson’s shows usually rely a lot on visuals and overall atmosphere, so that kind of space works in his favor.

Opening the night is VOWWS, a duo from Australia that mixes electronic and industrial sounds with alternative rock. They’re not as well known as Manson, but they’ve toured with similar artists and have a style that fits pretty naturally with his. Their music is a little more stripped-down and moody, with a focus on synths and rhythm rather than big guitar moments. It’ll probably feel like a slower build at the start of the night before things get more intense.

Overall, this show feels like it could be a mix of old and new. Some people will probably be there for the nostalgia, and others might be more interested in the newer material, but either way, it’s been long enough since his last Twin Cities stop that it stands out a bit more than usual.
