L7 Brings The Last Hurrah Tour to Minneapolis on November 3

L7 will bring their Last Hurrah Tour to the Fine Line in Minneapolis on Tuesday, November 3, marking what could be one of the final opportunities for Twin Cities fans to see the influential Los Angeles rock band live. NOBRO will open the show.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1985 by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, L7 became one of the defining bands of the alternative and grunge scene that emerged from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Their 1992 album Bricks Are Heavy pushed the band into the mainstream, producing songs such as “Pretend We’re Dead,” “Shitlist,” “Everglade” and “Monster.” L7 eventually went on hiatus in 2001 before reuniting in 2014 and returning to the road.

The reunion became more than a nostalgia trip. In 2019, L7 released Scatter the Rats, their first full-length album of new material in two decades. The band continued releasing music and touring in the years that followed, including the 2023 single “Cooler Than Mars.” Now, just as the band begins its final run of shows, L7 has added another new song to its catalog.

“Loma Linda,” released October 5, is the band’s first new song in three years. The track actually dates back to 2003, when L7 recorded an early version with bassist Janis Tanaka. Donita Sparks recently returned to the unfinished recording, adding new vocals, lyrics and additional instrumentation with the band. Tanaka has also returned to the lineup for the Last Hurrah Tour.

The tour carries a more significant meaning following the death of longtime bassist Jennifer Finch earlier this year. Finch, a founding member of L7 who helped establish the band's identity during its early years, died July 18 at age 59 after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer. She had originally been expected to take part in the farewell tour but asked the band to continue while she received treatment.

Finch’s absence will be particularly noticeable during a tour designed as a final celebration of L7’s career. Tanaka, who previously played with the band, will join Sparks, Gardner and drummer Dee Plakas for the run. Finch’s memoir, Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7, is also scheduled for publication in January 2027.

Minneapolis has a long history with L7. The band has played the Twin Cities numerous times dating back to 1992, including shows at First Avenue and the Varsity Theater. Their most recent Minneapolis appearance came on July 28, 2024, when L7 opened for Foo Fighters and the Pretenders at Target Field. Before that, the band headlined First Avenue in October 2022 as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Bricks Are Heavy.

Opening the Fine Line show will be NOBRO, a Montreal-based punk band that has built a reputation for high-energy performances. The group formed in 2014 and features vocalist and bassist Kathryn McCaughey, guitarist Karolane Carbonneau, keyboardist/percussionist Lisandre Bourdage and drummer Sarah Dion. Their 2023 debut full-length, Set Your Pussy Free, earned a Polaris Music Prize shortlist spot and a Juno nomination for Rock Album of the Year.

NOBRO has already shared stages with acts including PUP, Alexisonfire, Billy Talent and blink-182, giving them plenty of experience playing to larger rock audiences. Their combination of punk energy, sharp hooks and an anything-goes live approach should make them a fitting opener for L7.

With the Last Hurrah Tour billed as L7’s final tour, the Minneapolis stop carries more weight than a typical reunion show. Between the band’s history, the loss of Finch, a returning former bassist and the arrival of new material, the Fine Line performance will offer fans a chance to look back at where L7 came from while hearing what the band sounds like at the end of its long run.
