Hot Mulligan Live at Palace Theatre
Michigan emo band Hot Mulligan is bringing their ‘The Sound a Body Makes When it’s Still’ tour is St. Paul Minnesota on Tuesday December 2nd. Starting in Lansing Michigan in 2014 playing house shows, Hot Mulligan as successful recorded and released 6 EPs and 5 albums, with their 5th album The Sound a Body Makes When it’s Still being released just this year in 2025. The band released their first EPs titled Fenton and Honest & Cunning in 2015 with their debut album Pilot being released being in 2018. Since their early releases, Hot Mulligan’s music has been streamed over 140 million times on Spotify, and they’ve toured with sonic forefathers like The Wonder Years and Jimmy Eat World.
Vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman said, “When we started Hot Mulligan, the emo revival was going. We so desperately wanted to be a part of that, but by the time anyone would listen to songs called ‘11 Second Burp,’ most of those bands disappeared and we were out on our own. Even though we were born at the ass-end of that, we captured the sound a little”.
Their recent album The Sounds a Body Makes When it’s Still was released on August 22nd, 2025 and preceded by their first released single from the album, “And a Big Load” — released on June 3rd. The single is about dealing with the consequences of your own actions and the struggle of decision making. Originally, the song was titled “Fast Crap”, but was changed to “And A Big Load”, so headlines about the single would read “Hot Mulligan releases new single and a big load”, which they thought would be funny. The name of the album is a lyrical reference and is described by the band as encapsulating the feeling of fear and paranoia, “That lyric is in a song about paranoia, which is fear. With the album title, you can go the meditation route, or, the horror that you are in your body, and you have to exist. You have no choice, really. Even if you plan on killing yourself, right now you exist. And that is a terrifying thing”.
Hot Mulligan is touring with support from Drug Church, Arm’s Length, and Anxious. There is a limited amount of tickets left for this show and they can be bought here. This show is all ages and doors are at 5:30pm.
