Greer is BACK and playing at Fine Line Music Cafe 6/19
After more than a year apart working on their own projects and personal growth, the Orange County indie rock band Greer has come back together and released their first full album Big Smile in March 2025. Originally forming in 2028, the band’s name, Greer, is an ode to Emma Greer DiBiase - a beloved social media creator who has built a community of supporters and artist. She was also the drummer, Lucas Ovalle’s, partner and had unfortunately loss their battle with pediatric cancer in 2016.
The band reconvened in 2023 and went back to where it all started - Ovalle’s garage where they deconstructed all the hurdles and anxieties they had faced before the hiatus and how they were going to move forward as a band. Those garage sessions turned out to be wildly productive as the band spent that time writing new songs, revisiting old ideas, and demoing everything—eventually walking into the studio with over 200 songs. The 13 tracks that made it onto Big Smile are the emotional standouts, capturing the highs and lows of their time apart and the clarity they found as they came back together. As an ode to the release of their new sound and newly released album, the Big Smile tour commenced on May 30 in Phoenix, AZ, and is set to conclude on June 30 in Santa Ana, CA. The tour features performances in intimate venues across the U.S. and Canada while making a pit stop and downtown Minneapolis venue Fine Line Music Cafe on June 19th. This tour feels like a homecoming for the band, and they’ve made it clear they want each show to be a space where fans can show up as themselves and celebrate their own identities and progress. For fans who have been following them since their early SoundCloud days or just stumbled across Big Smile last week, this tour is dedicated to you.
Opening for Greer on their comeback tour is Chinese American Bear, a funky mando pop duo from Seattle, WA. They’ve created a sound that is a fun, eclectic, bilingual mix of English and Chinese.
