Dropkick Murphys Riled Up At Palace Theater
Howdy folks! This was a super fun concert, with a stacked lineup, and a perfect venue for moshing, so what more can you ask for?
We had a pretty large turnout, sold out in fact! These crowds are always a blast as well, and i got to interact with a lot of fun people getting ready for the night. Opening up for us was Slugger! What a fun band to kick off the night too, I was really a big fan of their vocalists growl ranges and pure energy just rocking on stage, you could tell they just had a blast performing for us. Admittedly, hadn’t heard of them before, but hearing their song “Skinhead” def made me like them!
Now Haywire was such an awesome show especially for a hardcore band, they interacted with the crowd effortlessly, played some awesome speedy songs and really got the crowd hyped up for the rest of the night as well. My favorite song was New England Forever, in which they actually brought out Dropkicks own lead singer Ken Casey to join them. It was a fun show of comradery as well, and the mosh pits this band were able to put together were super energetic as well, absolute blast.
Dropkick Murphys came on like a canon.
Bathed in white light, lead singer and Boston boy extraordinaire Ken Casey’s silhouette appeared out of the darkness as the bagpiper piped as he does. “Barroom Here” was a perfect choice for opener. The crowd was electric, and plenty lubed up for a rock show. The tiny newsboy hats and flatcaps were flying high. Reaching out to the audience while standing on the small platform in front of the stage, allowed many to sing along with the band. Giggles from the group were spied as this particularly tuned up guy was vibrating with excitement / almost ate the mic.
A few songs in, and avoiding some kicks from the wild adventurous concert goers (No one was malicious, just very drunk and excited,) really felt the comrodery of the show. Even after a benefit show earlier in the day, Dropkick Murphys held nothing back and ever member was present and looked to be having a genuinly fantastic time. I guess after doing this for a few decades, this being their celebratory 30th Anniversary, their concert muscles are peak and constantly used. Even though it was a sold-out packed show, still saw plenty of folks making space for others and not puking directly on strangers. Which…for a show when the beers flow like opinions, can be a rare stasis. They played for hours. Was tickled extra when “The Boys Are Back” erupted. An astounding 24 songs. Twenty four. Showing up for their diehard fans like that is exemplary and is a shining example of love for the music and those who bleed Dropkick Murphys. Which, of course, many do. And they were there at The Palace last Friday night.
