An Evening with LA WITCH at the Turf Club
Emerging from the sun-soaked streets of Los Angeles, L.A. Witch has carved a niche in the music world with their haunting blend of garage rock, psychedelic undertones, and post-punk vibes. Formed in 2011 by Sade Sanchez (vocals, guitar) and Irita Pai (bass), and later joined by Ellie English (drums), the trio has consistently delivered music that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The Turf Club of St. Paul, MN, perfectly matched the group’s aura. The crowd was cool and collected. Their excitement filled the air while a chilled beer filled their hand. Everyone felt like they had shown up to see their friends rock out for the evening, and those are some of the best nights of music to attend.
Conjuring songs from their latest LP, DOGGOD, tracks such as "Icicle" and "Kiss Me Deep" showcased shimmering guitar tones and introspective lyrics that explore love, loss, and spirituality. The lead single, "777," stood out with its hypnotic basslines and evocative storytelling, drawing parallels between romantic devotion and martyrdom.
With DOGGOD, L.A. Witch continues to push boundaries, blending their garage rock roots with new sonic landscapes. As they embark on their tour, the trio remains a compelling force in the indie music scene, enchanting listeners with their evocative melodies and desert rock soundscapes.
To set the tone for the evening was the band DAIISTAR.
And boy, they did not drop the ball! Hailing from Austin, Texas, this quartet—comprising Alex Capistran (vocals, guitar), Nick Cornetti (drums), Misti Hamrick (bass), and Derek Strahan (keys)—has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of shoegaze, noise-pop, and neo-psychedelia since their formation in 2020. The group’s hazy reverb and psychedelic vocals took you into a vivid dreamscape where sound and emotion intertwine.
They are rightfully a new favorite of mine!
