Charlie Puth Delivers a Pitch-Perfect Night in Minneapolis

This past Saturday at the Armory Charlie Puth fans packed the house. Fans dressed up in ties and smoking jackets as a nod to an evening of perfect pitch and musical playtime from Professor Puth.

The evening bought us two openers, first to take the stage was rising star Ally Salort with her introspective pop forward songs. Ally sang her fresh single Housekeeping with soft vocals and emotionally driven songwriting offering a warm introduction to the night ahead. She also offered the audience a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris offering a moment for the audience to sing with her and bring them into her set. Her set balanced vulnerability with polished pop easing the crowd into the evening with songs that felt intimate and radio-ready. There was a sweetness to her stage presence that paired well with the growing anticipation inside the venue.

Next to take the stage was Daniel Seavey, bringing a noticeable shift in energy as the room erupted into screams from fans pressed against the barricade. With a familiarity from the former group Why Don’t We, Seavey proved himself fully capable of commanding the stage on his own. Blending pop-rock energy with strong vocals and impressive musicianship, he bounced between instruments building songs on a loop pedal, and feeding off the audience’s excitement throughout the set. His performance felt confident and dynamic, setting the stage perfectly for the high-energy performance that would follow from Charlie Puth later in the evening. A particularly outstanding moment was when Seavy offers the audience a chance to name a song he builds live and sings. Audience member ‘Corn’ aka Lauren, called out Harry Styles Fine Line, which he built live with the audience loudly singing along. I can see him excelling on his own headlining tour and will be watching to see where he goes next. A great choice of opener for Puth.

When Charlie Puth finally took the stage at The Armory, the reaction from the crowd was immediate, phones in the air, and a level of excitement that rarely dipped throughout the night. Before appearing on stage Puth’s backup singers had the chance to build excitement and offer some brilliant vocals, a peek into the musicality of the evening ahead. Puth opened the set with polished precision he’s become known for, effortlessly blending live vocals, piano work, and sharp production into a performance that felt both technically impressive and genuinely fun. While many artists rely heavily on spectacle, Charlie’s biggest strength remains his musicianship. Between songs he broke down melodies, layered harmonies, and even turned crowd noise into impromptu beats, giving the audience glimpses into the mind of someone who truly hears music differently.

The set moved fluidly between massive singalong moments and more intimate stretches. Hits like Attention, We Don’t Talk Anymore, and See You Again were massive sing a long moments with the crowd. His latest release, Whatevers Clever! showcased a slightly more mature and reflective side of his songwriting. Tracks like Sideways and Beat Yourself Up translated especially well live, bringing a disco-pop energy that kept the audience dancing between the more emotional ballads.

What stood out most throughout the evening was just how much fun Puth seemed to be having. There was an ease to the performance with playful interactions between the crowd and moments where he simply stepped back smiling as fans sang the lyrics for him. Even in a venue as large as the Armory, the show never lost its sense of personality. It felt less like watching a distant artist and more like being invited into Charlie Puth’s very musical brain for the evening. Somewhere between the singalongs and phone lights up in the air, the night carried that rare kind of concert magic, unexpectedly running into old friends, sharing songs with strangers, and remembering why live music feels so connective in the first place.

By the end of the night, it was clear why his live shows continue to resonate so strongly with audiences. Beyond the viral hits and chart success is an artist deeply obsessed with sound, performance, and connection and Minneapolis gladly met that energy right back.
