Ratboys Sang to More Than an Empty Chair at The Fine Line

Howdy folks-

We had an absolute blast at The Fine Line watching Villagerrr and Ratobys perform to a completely packed house.

Opening up for us, Villagerrr brought some really interesting vibes to the crowd.

A 5-piece band, accompanied by a steel guitar as well, this was slow, melancholic, and atmospheric, filling up the room with sound utterly and completely. It was a lot of fun being up front snapping photos, and also feeling the bass fill the room, and the purposeful guitar strums repeating into the echoes of the room.

The band seemed happy to be here, even pointing out some local friends, and just jamming on stage.

There were a few moments of weird mic feedback, but to be honest, it melded with their set, and how filling they tried to make the noise in the room.

Overall, super fun time watching them, and hope to hear more of them! I ended up nabbing one of their cassettes, and it’s been a blast to listen to as well!

After a good chunk of intermission and waiting, it was sweet to see Julia and the Ratboy gang off to the side, putting their hands in the middle together, with a preshow hurrah. Coming on stage, they were met with loud applause, and I gotta say, I haven’t seen The Fine Line this packed in a minute! I’m not 100% sure if it was actually sold out or not, but it sure felt like it in there. I made the mistake of not staying up front for too long, and fighting to get back there was a hard one!

Starting with Open Up and going into Anywhere, thiswas immediately a fun time, with the band members jumping around on stage and getting the energy riled up right away.

Hearing Julia’s voice light and cutting through the bass and drums on stage, it was just super fun to hear the good indie vibes going by right away.

The steel guitar, however, was one of my favorite parts overall; it was such a clean sound cutting through the noise.

The crowd was SO jumpy and interactive as well, and seeing just how packed the venue got for our Chiacog neighbors was a blast to see!

One of my favorite things was the band mentioning local charities to help immigrants, and really highlighting communit outreach.

Overall, a great Americana indie vibey night, and a show that the Midwest showed up for, and i cant wait for the next go around. I will give a heads up, though, the merch line got LONG after the show, so show up early for that!
