Pentatonix Brings Their Christmas in the City Tour to St. Paul
On Wednesday night, the Grand Casino Arena transformed into an a cappella paradise as Pentatonix took the stage. The crowd’s excitement was unmistakable, and from the first note, the group delivered a renowned vocal performance.
The current members of Pentatonix include Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee.
Their setlist blended fan favourites with holiday classics, each arrangement bursting with creativity and precision. Beatboxer Kevin Olusola wowed the audience with his rhythmic prowess, while Scott Hoying’s powerful leads and Kirstin Maldonado’s soaring vocals added emotional depth. The harmonies were tight, the energy infectious, and the visuals complemented the music perfectly.
One of the night’s most memorable moments came during a playful game the group introduced. They rolled a giant inflatable die to choose a holiday song, then rolled a second die to determine the genre they’d perform it in. St. Paul hit the jackpot with two hilarious combinations. St. Paul got lucky enough to get “Let It Snow” in an EDM style and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” as a sea shanty. The audience roared with laughter and applause as Pentatonix effortlessly transformed these classics into unexpected, genre-bending performances. Even the members were shocked by their own spontaneous creativity.
One of my favorite parts of the night was when they sang their iconic a cappella rendition of Fleet Foxes’ White Winter Hymnal. Everyone was on the edge of their seats as the crew delivered hauntingly beautiful harmonies, and you could feel the collective breath of the audience being held until the final note.
Beyond flawless vocals, Pentatonix brought warmth and authenticity to the stage. Between songs, they shared stories and gratitude, making the massive venue feel intimate. By the time the final encore rang out, the audience was on its feet, cheering for more.
For anyone who doubts the power of pure voice, Pentatonix’s St. Paul show was undeniable proof. There were no live instruments, just talent and heart. If you get the chance, I would highly recommend seeing Pentatonix live! You can find their tour dates here.
