BRONCHO Sweeps Minneapolis Off its Feet
If you were in Minneapolis and saw the concert notification pop up on your phone that BRONCHO was going to play at 7th St Entry this August and immediately secured a spot at the show, I am one of you.
Being that the last time they came through town and played at 7th St., it seemed that 7th St is a beloved spot to visit when in town. Even if you don’t know their catalog by heart, you know that the moves this band has made made no small wake; they are huge in the indie rock community! Speaking of community, Minneapolis showed up! The show was sold out. No openers, just BRONCHO set to go on at 8:30pm. This was the most packed I’ve ever seen 7th St. Entry. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had been at a show that was that packed in general. Everyone in the room knew this night was going to be one to sweetly remember forever.
BRONCHO’s latest LP, Natural Pleasure, was kicking off the evening. They made the entire space feel warm, light, and more grounded to the earth and your inner emotional workings. The first half of this show was dedicated to their masterpiece of an album, and it was pure magic to experience it live. Just when you thought you couldn’t get physically closer to anyone in the room, this music makes you reach out to the partner you came with to the show just to pull them in a little closer. What’s so incredibly extraordinary and impressive about this album is how it strikes such raw emotion and at such great depths. Many of us closed our eyes and simply let the music move through us.
In two short weeks, my partner and I will be on a thru-hike of the Superior Hiking Trail. And after that, we will move into our van and travel across the country. As soon as BRONCHO started playing Imagination, tears welled up in my eyes. I felt so grateful to be there, experiencing every second internally in that moment, with the one I love, and for what the future will bring. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I thought about how special Minneapolis is for music makers and lovers alike. The scene, the community, the venues, I’m sure you could find similar elsewhere, but I’m certain it wouldn’t have the same effects on a person.
The second half of the night BRONCHO filled with fan favorites across their discography. And you read the right, the second half! After nearly playing their whole newest LP, they cranked up the heat and played songs such as, Sandman and Classic Historian. Not to mention, a 6-song encore! These guys gave a performance of a lifetime, and from the looks on their faces, they enjoyed every minute of it. I think everyone there was floored, jaws to the floor, stunned with what we had experienced this night. You felt the wavelength they created with their instruments and hopped on for a ride. Hands down one of the most memorable shows in Minneapolis music history for those who were able to experience it.
