Teddy Swims Brings Joy And Soul To The Armory!
Sunday night after a hot Fourth of July weekend, the weather made a lovely breezy turn. Minnesota understood the assignment; Teddy Swims is here.
Having never heard him live, was ready to get a close and personal performance at The Armory. Such a beautiful venue, make it a point to see a show there ASAP if you are late to the game. It is high up there in my book; historical significance + acoustic gold standards + ample bathroom and beer access = Kaite is a gonna have a good time.
This night would exceed my expectations.
Opening up the show, 19 years young, Sienna Spiro. She is a powerhouse. Having a slight brush with technical difficulties the first song, this young singer dealt with the slight upset like a pro. She made a comment a few songs in that Armory was her biggest crowd yet, and was so excited to be performing in Minneapolis. The audience gave agreement of equal admiration with huge cheers and applause for this up and coming act. Her set was simple, dripping in red light with a piano accommanying her. That's all that was needed. High marks all around.
After such a peaceful and impactful opening act, everyone was buzzing with anticipation for Teddy Swims. A huge curtain billowing in front of the stage, was not sure what to guess what type of visuals were going to be used. Love when there is a bit of mystery between the bands. Give me some drama.
And wow, did it start off with a bang. A flurry of smoke and sparkling pyrotechnics started off the first song with an electric jolt. As a metal girl at heart, fire and flames are a beloved diving board. Also, another wow right away. His. VOICE. Better than radio. This Georgia guy is a siren. One of those special singers that actually outdo themselves when in-concert. The sold out show was packed, but there was a nice circle digital display for the audience to get a solid view if there were heads blocking the full band which included 3 killer backup vocalists.
The vibes were positive throughout the evening. It's easy to get flustered when the show is busy, but honestly, it wasn't an issue. I was easily able to navigate throughout the floor and around the venue. Catching the gaze of the audience, they were locked in and fully immersed in this show. People were having an honest good time. Though the tour may be called “I've Tried Everything But Therapy,” in my opinion, everyone got a free session that night. 🧸
